Day Lily |Hemerocallis fulva|

Day Lily(Hemerocallis fulva) is often found in meadows, I stumbled upon a lily too exotic to be from here. Native to Asia, if you let this plant run free it will blanket the entire scene with its delicate radiance. My great-grandmother planted them here on ancestral land to protect the shoreline from erosion!

Every part of this plant is edible...something I wish that I knew when it was blooming. In addition, every part of the plant is also medicinal. Day Lilies are used as a sedative promoting relaxation for the anxious and stressed. It achieves this by calming down racing heart rates. And have been scientifically proven to increase serotonin levels, memory and sleep. Instilling a general sense of well-being and tranquility.

The Latin name for Day Lily means Beautiful Day because it’s only blooms for one day, and withers each night with new blooms that lasts the whole summer season!

To me it represents a cycles of duality, the constant birth and death of this flower that is necessary to last the season. The Day Lily inspires one to embrace the duality of self necessary for personal development. Holding space for the the shadow self is just as important as the light. And allowing yourself to flow in between creates harmony within just we witness it in nature.

For Day Lily extraction I did a 2-1 ratio to flowers to alcohol 80 proof.
