GoldenRod | Solidago
During the pandemic, I ventured into foraging my own herbs within my herbalism path. I came across this plant that my intuition had told me was very important. As I was able to identify this plant as Goldenrod at the time. The genus name of goldenrod, Solidago, is derived from soldare, meaning ‘to make whole,’
I waited patiently, because even without flowers it was already magnificent, rapidly approaching my height. I couldn’t imagine this majestic plant in bloom. But one day, I came outside and the entire patch had been mowed down my by dad.
All over IG, the magnificent pictures of goldenrod in bloom and I couldn’t wait for my moment. That’s why I am so happy that my new path brings me to locations where these plants are more accessible. point on plants would no longer be a nice touch to the scenery, or a nuisance to my dad's yard. These were sacred relationships and allies that have been nurtured and gained over the years.
I saw all over Instagram were magnificent fields of Goldenrod blooms during the late part of the summer. And for years after my initial introduction, I would never get to because by then I would have to return to school.
I couldn’t wait for my moment where I finally got to experience it in bloom and I didn't need to leave. That’s why I am so happy that my new path brings me to locations where these plants are more accessible.
I’ll tell you that the real bloom is magnificent almost as the sun, and the medicine is truly powerful. Most people know this plant( as a myth) to cause allergies, but Goldenrod actually fights against allergies.
I can safely say that I haven't experienced an allergic reaction or hay fever in years, As someone who is allergic to many forms of pollen to the point where I had to wear masks outside to prevent asthmatic like reactions ( I don't have Asthma). Goldenrod along with local honey was imperative to eliminating severe allergic reactions. It relieves congestion of the upper respiratory tract for many illnesses such as colds and flus.
Goldenrod is also used to treat Urinary Disorders through its ability to increase urine necessary to flush the Kidneys and Bladder from infections and build up of deposits. This process is also known as "irrigation therapy". For this reason, it is really important to drink plenty of water to increase the efficacy of this herb. And Goldenrod helps prevent Urinary Tract Infections.
Overall, Goldenrod is used to treat inflammation which leads to pain and swelling. Because of this, many have relied on Goldenrod flowers for the easing of arthritis and other joint pains.
