Passionflower| Passionflora Incarnata|

Passiflora Incarnata, also known as Maypop.

This is my favorite flower and plant medicine to use for healing. It is always an honor to just be in the presence of this flower of Passion.

I tell you that one can learn the lesson of a plant just by watching it. The vine blankets and climbs the scene around it, there is no heights out of reach to the passionflower. Spiral tendrils cling together with the grasp of lost lovers. The flower itself has five petals, with a hypnotizing purple corona(crown) of curly appendages tantalizing any nearby pollinators. It'’s scent is captivating and what you would expect from such a flower. It excites the senses and floods the body with tranquility.

This plant is the ally of the artist, the visionary, and dancers. Anyone exuding passion and sensuality. I enjoyed the essence of this plant every day before my first artist show. I found myself dancing all over my apartment with a paintbrush in my hand, it gave me the motivation and creativity to reach the bounds of my imagination. Along with the peace and relaxation in my body in order to navigate my journey.

It is a known vitamin supplement for sleep, and anxiety as well. But I have never personally used it for sleep or even anxiety. It does calm me down but for me the creative euphoria is what I notice when I use it. If I am feeling pressured or unmotivated, this is my go to.

When I left Florida, I was the most upset that I was leaving the passionflower vine back at my alma mater's garden(Eckerd College). And four 4 years I tried to propagate the plant and was unsuccessful. It could've been because of the difference of the two types of passionflower. Initially I tried to propagate it within water.

At the time, I believed this plant was tropical and wouldn’t be able to survive the climate in Virginia. But deep in the summer, sometime in July, as I was walking something caught my eye.

Maypop is a species of passionflower that is actually native to the southeastern U.S. Seeing this plant meant so much for newfound path. To me this plant is a sign of intense passion nearby. I was successful in rooting a cutting of the plant, and it grows on my land as well!

I just cut 6 inch pieces of the vine and stuck them within soil. And you can tell by the vine starting to grow and the little baby leaves that its continuing to grow. Which is honestly a dream for me.

Here I have included scientific literature regarding the medicinal uses of Passionflower:
